Dhaka urges Indian political intent in Hasina extradition process
State Minister Shama Obaed says India’s political intent is needed to advance Bangladesh’s request for Sheikh Hasina’s extradition. The comments follow an Indian account that legal proceedings are continuing. No return date or agreement to transfer the former prime minister was announced in the reports.

Bangladesh expects India to show political intent in advancing the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, State Minister Shama Obaed said on 4 October.
Her comments followed remarks by Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi that a legal process was continuing. The Indian account did not provide a timetable for a transfer.
Shama urged India to move the process forward while respecting legal procedures. Her statement expressed Bangladesh’s position; it was not an announcement that Indian courts or the government had agreed to return Hasina.
Extradition involves both a request by one state and decisions within the requested state’s legal and governmental processes. Public pressure for faster action should therefore be distinguished from a completed legal outcome.
The exchange adds a new diplomatic statement to an ongoing dispute. It does not change the need to attribute claims and separate allegations, court findings and political demands.
For readers following relations between the two countries, the central issue is whether the public statements lead to a documented procedural step. The reports reviewed for this edition announced neither a transfer date nor a new bilateral agreement resolving the request.
