September road crashes killed 423 people, monitoring group reports
The Road Safety Foundation says 423 people died and 674 were injured in 442 crashes during September. Motorcyclists and pedestrians accounted for a large share of those killed. The figures come from the organisation’s monitoring of reports and its own information, rather than a complete national police census.

Road crashes killed 423 people and injured 674 across Bangladesh in September, according to a report released by the Road Safety Foundation on 4 October.
The organisation recorded 442 crashes during the month, putting average daily deaths at about 14. Its findings draw on national newspapers, online news outlets, broadcast reports and information collected by the foundation itself.
Motorcyclists accounted for 139 deaths, while 106 pedestrians were killed. The overall toll included 73 women and 61 children. These categories overlap, so they should not be added together as separate groups within the total.
Dhaka division recorded 134 deaths in 132 crashes, according to the monitoring report. The foundation called for measures including stronger speed control, better driver training and more effective enforcement.
The figures provide a snapshot of crashes identified through the organisation’s monitoring system, rather than a definitive census of all road casualties. Comparisons with other reports require attention to their collection methods and reporting periods.
The concentration of deaths among riders and people on foot highlights the exposure of road users with little physical protection. The report’s recommendations remain proposals; their publication does not establish that enforcement has improved.
