National Citizen Party chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary was attacked and his vehicle vandalised during a visit to the Lalon Shah shrine in Kushtia on the evening of 4 October, according to police and local reports.

Police went to the shrine at Chheuriya in Kumarkhali and escorted him away. Kushtia Superintendent of Police Aminul Islam confirmed the attack and damage to the vehicle to The Daily Star, while saying he did not yet know all the details.

A witness cited by the newspaper said a group threw eggs, brick fragments and stones. Jago News and The Daily Observer also reported the attack, describing Patwary’s visit as personal.

Jago News quoted party sources alleging the involvement of a local Chhatra Dal member. The organisation’s district convener denied organisational involvement and said any member found responsible would bear individual responsibility. Police had not established the attackers’ identities in the reports reviewed.

Accounts differ over the exact sequence of events and whether a complaint had been lodged. The Daily Star quoted Kumarkhali police as saying no case had yet been filed at the time of its report. Any injuries, the motive and individual responsibility remained unconfirmed.
