The government honoured 102 teachers on 5 October at a World Teachers’ Day ceremony in Dhaka, turning the previously announced awards programme into a completed national presentation.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman handed over the awards at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium. Each recipient received Tk200,000, a crest and a certificate in recognition of contributions to education and nation-building.

The group included 10 teachers from primary education, 20 from secondary education and 25 from colleges. Twenty came from general universities and 10 from medical colleges and universities. Agricultural and engineering universities each accounted for three recipients, while four represented other specialised universities. Seven additional teachers were selected by the prime minister.

The confirmed ceremony total resolves the different recipient counts reported ahead of the event. The education ministry organised the programme as part of the annual observance focusing on teachers’ rights, professional development and dignity.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tarique called for modernising teacher training and using technology to support classroom teaching. He also instructed the authorities to ensure that salaries and retirement benefits reach teachers through their bank accounts on time, without repeated visits to government offices.

Those instructions set out the government’s stated approach; the ceremony itself did not demonstrate that payment delays had been resolved.
